This conceptual paper aims at opening the research field of Academic Social Entrepreneurship by bringing together the literatures on Social Entrepreneurship and University-Society relationship within a New-institutional theoretical framework. The paper claims that Social Entrepreneurship is a model to improve the societal relevance of the results of scientific research more consistent with the aims and culture of academic communities than commercialization-oriented technology transfer.
