Separate collection is a key topic to assure either the achievement of the limits established by law and a good quality of the waste collected, where efficiency and effectiveness with proper systems are essential. In this paper safety risks for this kind of job has been considered as the main of selection criteria in the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and used for the comparison between two systems operating in Udine District: proximity kerbside collection and door-to door system. The other criteria adopted are: the quality of the waste collected, the period of time of the service, the customer’s satisfaction and the cost of the service. For Udine District the best system identified within the study is the proximity kerbside collection.
