Abstract

Sound films inaugurated new typologies of listening. Traditional narrative developments were gradually replaced by audio-visual models featuring elaborate combinations of sound and image. At the same time other art forms have pursued the dream of creating “music for the eyes”. The investigation of heterogeneous audio-visual contexts takes the question of synchronization as a common denominator, as it affects not only cinema but also the moving image associated with electroacoustic music and various forms of intermediality.
