A HOLISTIC VISION FOR A STABLE AND RESILIENT COEXISTENCE BETWEEN MAN AND NATURE

This section, dedicated to the co-existence between man and nature within the Natura 2000 network, was developed during the dramatic SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Such a premise is of paramount importance because there is one word that more than any other links the co-existence between man and nature and the fight against a virus, the word "awareness". Only through awareness of the existence of a potential problem, or a potential opportunity, can strategies for co-existence be developed. The awareness that comes through a properly conveyed process of knowledge makes it possible to adopt virtuous behaviours instead of harmful conduct and to apply corrective measures to the methods of land use and behaviour. Just as in tackling a health emergency it is crucial to take into consideration the time variable and to know how quickly a process evolves to adopt the appropriate measures, this variable is equally important in maintaining virtuous models of co-existence and in building new ones.
