The contribution presents the results of the research on the architecture and construction of military fortifications built during the Cold War. This was designed as a ‘wide-reaching and continuous’ system of defensive structures that have strongly characterized the territory and landscape of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The study of these constructions, examining the technical aspects of the defensive structures along the eastern frontier, was done with scientific rigour. This began with an examination of the original plans, which have now been declassified, and then pursued an interconnected overview of the typological and formal characteristics, and the materials and technologies used in their construction. In particular in the contribution are analize the use of reinforced concrete as the main material for the construction of bunkers. This research also hopes to promote a reflection on the heritage of these sites, with a view to their recovery and reuse.
