This article sets out to offer a few insights into the emotion of jealousy in Roman comedy and, more specifically, in Plautus’ Casina, where the character of Cleostrata appears to display jealous feelings over her husband. Despite the absence of straightforward verbal clues, which is incidentally rather common in ancient literature with reference to jealousy, it is possible to bring together, in this play, the ‘tesserae’ of a jealousy script that gives absolute prominence to the wife’s (creative) revenge against her unfaithful husband.

Abstract
This article sets out to offer a few insights into the emotion of jealousy in Roman comedy and, more specifically, in Plautus’ Casina, where the character of Cleostrata appears to display jealous feelings over her husband. Despite the absence of straightforward verbal clues, which is incidentally rather common in ancient literature with reference to jealousy, it is possible to bring together, in this play, the ‘tesserae’ of a jealousy script that gives absolute prominence to the wife’s (creative) revenge against her unfaithful husband.File in questo prodotto:
