The site of Karkemish-Europos, in south-eastern Turkey, is primarily known for the role it played during the Bronze and Iron ages. Nevertheless, archaeological excavations and other types of activities carried out on the field have revealed interesting aspects of its history during the Islamic period, from the re-shaping of the city layout after Late Antiquity to coherent pottery assemblages. This paper aims to discuss the new evidence collected since 2011 by the Turco-Italian Archaeological Expedition, in order to reconstruct a general picture of Europos/Jirbās between the beginning of the Islamic period and the 12th century. The new data not only represent evidence for the most recent phases of the occupation of the site, but also provide elements regarding the history of the region during the Early Islamic period.
