The analysis of some individual cases (such as those of cardinals Ercole Gonzaga, Marco Sittico Altemps, Desiderio Scaglia) and of some unpublished documents from the Diocesan Archive of Udine allows us to delve into the theme of the worldly and sexual behaviour of the Catholic clergy in the early modern age. The essay intends to emphasise the sharing of the same behaviour by laymen and clergymen, and thus the need to revise a prejudiced and/or apologetic view of post-Tridentine Church history.

Abstract
The analysis of some individual cases (such as those of cardinals Ercole Gonzaga, Marco Sittico Altemps, Desiderio Scaglia) and of some unpublished documents from the Diocesan Archive of Udine allows us to delve into the theme of the worldly and sexual behaviour of the Catholic clergy in the early modern age. The essay intends to emphasise the sharing of the same behaviour by laymen and clergymen, and thus the need to revise a prejudiced and/or apologetic view of post-Tridentine Church history.File in questo prodotto:
