The Bronze Emperors are a group of colossal statues of Caesar, Augustus, Nerva, Trajan, and Constantine produced between 1932 and 1941 in numerous copies. Made by the Laganà and Chiurazzi art foundries in Naples from modified casts of famous ancient originals, they were part of a propaganda effort to establish the myth of ancient Rome in Italy and abroad. The program was launched n 1932 in Rome and almost immediately extended to other Italian and Spanish cities. The histories of the individual Emperors, still largely unknown, would deserve to be investigated. Around them history of fascism and postwar anti-fascist actions are inextricably intertwined.
