Un commento pseudo-gregoriano ai salmi penitenziali, attribuibile a Eriberto di Reggio Emilia

The analysis of the linguistic occurrences and the study of the sources demonstrate the great debt of the «Expositio in septem psalmos paenitentiales» toward the thought of Gregory the Great and of the Church Fathers, but they also reveal innovative and original exegetical approaches within the text. Many linguistic, exegetical and thematic affinities with Rupertus Tuitiensis' production help to relate the commentary on the Psalms to the period of the Investiture Controversy and suggest a possible relation with the operas of the great theologist of the XII century. However it can be proven that the «Expositio» was used by Rupertus Tuitiensis to strengthen his thought and it is convincing that he believed it was a Gregorian work. Far from being an exegetical opera written by pope Gregory, the «Expositio» can be attributed to the bishop Herbertus thanks to the precious evidence of the manuscript Wien, ÖNB 792, the only witness of the tradition containing a reference to the Italian bishop.
