The Village Handbook. Possible Regeneration Scenarios

The research focuses on the inland areas of Friuli Venezia Giulia. Italy faces a negative demographic and economic period; according to ISTAT data, 2018 records the worst population decline in the last century. Another factor is the climate crisis: rising temperatures and rainfall patterns affect the safety of buildings and infrastructure. Marginal areas suffer the worst effects of this crisis. The research outlines the state of the art of hamlets through a reinterpretation of public and private policies, in order to enhance the most successful experiences, placing them in a list of possible scenarios. The structure of the manual represents the methodology of the research: buildings are classified according to their level of degradation and a series of intervention proposals are formulated. The result is summarised in a graphic abacus of interventions, free from predetermined functions to ensure scalability in multiple contexts. The manual aims at the creation of a user- friendly tool to increase village regeneration projects, in possible dialogue with public administrations.
