Dalle prime righe della prefazione: It is my pleasure to open this volume related to the activities of the I Colóquio Internacional de Grupos de Pesquisa: Educação de Surdos, Tradução, Interpretação e Linguística de Língua de Sinais with a reflection on the feelings and impressions I received as a foreigner researcher and teacher being hosted in Vitória, Brazil. What I found would have made a good basis for a sociolinguistic study on code mixing and code switching among Deaf and hearing people in international settings, and this might be food for thoughts for future publications. However, I would rather share the human aspects of my experience, as I believe this is also important to consider when reading a collection of works about Sign Language and Deafness. [...]
