Ephemera in miscellanea: le conclusiones di Girolamo Novelli alla Biblioteca Civica "V. Joppi"

The articles focuses on the role of Sammelbände in the preservation of ephemeral printed materials, specifically academic dissertations. Issued as small booklets or broadsheets and distributed by students during graduation ceremonies, they were often discarded or thrown away, unless they were bound together with other editions in composite volumes, which are thus often contain unique or extremely rare items. This is the case of a Sammelband held at the municipal library in Udine, which preserves the only known copy of the theses presented in 1583 by the Jesuit Girolamo Novelli (1553/1557-1623). The article delves into the rediscovery of this edition, placing it within the broader context of dissertation printing by the Jesuit order in early modern Milan.
