This chapter critically examines the disconnection between dominant planetary narratives surrounding ecological crises and the emerging perspectives from the Majority World, particularly through the lens of Latin American Political Ecology (LAPE). It argues that mainstream discussions often overlook the historical colonial roots and socio-economic dynamics that exacerbate environmental degradation, reducing the issue to a universal human responsibility. By emphasizing the role of capitalist systems in driving ecological crises, the chapter advocates for a rethinking of sustainability that includes diverse local knowledge systems and experiences from marginalized communities. It explores the implications of financialized capitalism and the power dynamics at play in environmental governance while calling for an inclusive ecological transition that addresses historical injustices and prioritizes social equity. Ultimately, this work aims to contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of the ecological transition by foregrounding the voices and knowledge of those disproportionately affected by climate change.
