The term mastocytosis encompasses a spectrum of uncommon disorders characterized by mast cell proliferation and accumulation in one or more organs. The main skin variants include maculopapular cutaneous mastocytosis, characterized by multiple, diffuse, macular to papular lesions, and mastocytoma, which presents as one or few tan-brown nodular lesions. The most frequent dermatoscopic finding of maculopapular variants is represented by a homogeneous light-brown pigmentation and/or pigment network. The presence of diffuse or multifocal yellow-orange areas (yellow-orange blots) is a constant feature of mastocytoma; additional less common features include diffuse light-brown discoloration and brownish network-like appearance, especially in regressing phases.
