In this paper the inverse problem of locating a finite number N of cracks in a axially vibrating rod from spectral data is considered. It is found that knowledge of the highest part of a single spectrum suffices to determine uniquely the (unordered) set of lengths of the (N+1) segments of bar separating the cracks.
