The paper analyses linguistic contact between the standard variety and dialects in Italian youth language. After a reflection upon the nature of youth language and its relationship with the regional and dialectal varieties in Italy, the research aims to focus that dialects nowadays, even if they are gradually decreasing, are still used in some new communicative habits (for exemple internet, mails, etc.), as a response to the need for expressivity, but also for cohesion and identification within the group.
