This paper gives the results of a theoretical-experimental study on the composition, performance and mechanical characteristics of high modulus mixes with EVA polymer added. The study aims to provide design solutions for structural strengthening of flexible pavements for maintenance of road and airport infrastructures. The mix-design is based on the classical Marshall methodology, plus a gyratory compactor, which has provided useful information on the shear strength of the mixtures and allowed the EVA-added bituminous concrete to be characterised in terms of workability. A comparative numerical analysis based on the BISAR code has led to alternative design solutions being identified, based on the use of EVA-added mixtures, which make a thinner pavement possible.

Abstract
This paper gives the results of a theoretical-experimental study on the composition, performance and mechanical characteristics of high modulus mixes with EVA polymer added. The study aims to provide design solutions for structural strengthening of flexible pavements for maintenance of road and airport infrastructures. The mix-design is based on the classical Marshall methodology, plus a gyratory compactor, which has provided useful information on the shear strength of the mixtures and allowed the EVA-added bituminous concrete to be characterised in terms of workability. A comparative numerical analysis based on the BISAR code has led to alternative design solutions being identified, based on the use of EVA-added mixtures, which make a thinner pavement possible.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
