The implementation and effects of supply chain management (SCM) initiatives have been widely investigated. However, the issue of which sequences of improvement initiatives companies undertake to improve their performance within a supply chain perspective has not been studied in sufficient depth. Some studies on the sequences of improvement initiatives at supply chain level suggest that the external competitive context plays a critical role in influencing future initiatives to be launched. This study provides an initial analysis of the large data set provided by the High Performance Manufacturing (HPM) international survey, with the aim of investigating supply chain improvement initiatives launched by a large number of companies, from various countries, in different industries. The paper aims to identify the existence of common paths of improvement, and to refine and extend theory on the sequences of SCM improvement initiatives. It was found that three main paths to improvement seem to exist. They differ in the number, sequence and type of initiatives launched.

Abstract
They differ in the number, sequence and type of initiatives launched.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
