Forte Marghera was built at the beginning of the nineteenth century in a site that has had particular importance over the years as a link between Venice and Mestre. The text analyses the history and the main characteristics of the fortification, as well as the guidelines for the restoration projects that were performed by the students of the faculty of Architecture of the IUAV in Venice. These projects had the objective of comprehending the values of the Fort in its context, with the aim of conserving it and of proposing new uses compatible with the architectural characteristics of both the entire fort and its individual buildings. In particular are taken into account the relationship with water, the territorial palimpsest, the bulding materials and technics, the relationship with vegetation, the geometry of military architecture, the historical memories.
