Roberto Albarea (University of Udine) Competence and Narration: an Educational Antinomy between Male and Female? “Where everything eventually falls into place” Competence is a collection of attitudes, experiences and levels of understanding which a person employs to face specific problems and to elaborate existential, social and professional plans he or she intends to carry out within a certain context. Having said this, one realizes that this term is closely linked to and becomes certified knowledge, experiential learning and self management. Narration relies on the individual’s ability to construct meaning, elaborate interpretations: it becomes the ability to express and mould oneself, to be able to critically analyse oneself, while relating to learning based on empathy and through constructive confrontation with others. Narration and competence seems to be in contradiction, on the contrary they are in an antinomical and paradoxical position of Betweenness. Neither of the two polarities dominates the other, but are both in equilibrium as in the form of internal and external sustainability. The others, the other, man and woman, are indispensable in the practices of the self in a sort of cautious and shared generalised co-responsibility which regards a sort of exercise of irony, memory, pietas and personal and educational styles, dissolved in life itself.
