The relations between French and Italian culture in the nineteenth century had a significative influence in the knowledge and the surveys of the so-called Tempietto longobardo in Cividale, thanks to the studies of Marie Etienne Siauve, Albert Lenoir and Fernand de Dartein as well as the activity the austrian Central Commission. The thought of the french architects and archeologists of the first half of the nineteenth century probably inspired also the very conservative approach followed during the restorations of 1859-60. This approach was imposed by a commission of the Accademia of Venice and was aimed at the conservation of the monument both in the form and in the matter, respecting all the additions and modifications executed over time.
