The book is a critical reflection on learning and teaching English as a foreign language. Some of the issues addressed range from what is special about English as a school subject, what are key language learning strategies, what are some main aspects and modalities to teach a foreign language, what is the link between theory and practice in class. The initial chapter contains key questions for teachers followed by a clear overview of teaching theories and practices. The central chapters analyse some of these approaches and strategies as a critical reflection on teaching and learning contexts and practices. The last chapter presents examples of tasks, lessons, units and modules linking the reflections and discussions of previous chapters with the actual school practice. The volume is addressed to teacher trainers, but it is also a contribution to continuous learning for teachers of nursery, primary and secondary school. It is therefore a book that can be used in pre-service or in-service teacher training courses or as a self-access resource for teachers.
