This paper is devoted to the variety of textures in masonry work in the building traditions of the Friulian plain, characterized by variation in the size of the stones, methods of laying, and trim elements. Through its stones, the river becomes home: plains-dwelling Friulians have always built their houses from materials gathered from stony shores and nearby fields, guided by the timeless building traditions that have characterized these locations: "Rusty woods, houses with walls of black stones, made blue by sulfate, the yellow walls of barns, gently curved dirt roads, as in a painting by the purest Corot" (P. P. Pasolini, Il Friuli, play, from Teche Rai, 1953).

Abstract
This paper is devoted to the variety of textures in masonry work in the building traditions of the Friulian plain, characterized by variation in the size of the stones, methods of laying, and trim elements. Through its stones, the river becomes home: plains-dwelling Friulians have always built their houses from materials gathered from stony shores and nearby fields, guided by the timeless building traditions that have characterized these locations: "Rusty woods, houses with walls of black stones, made blue by sulfate, the yellow walls of barns, gently curved dirt roads, as in a painting by the purest Corot" (P. P. Pasolini, Il Friuli, play, from Teche Rai, 1953).File | Dimensione | Formato | |
