This paper refers to systems researches related to energy recovery, in particular from EAF fumes for the production of electrical and/or thermal energy through cogeneration. In the proposed system there are two possible forms of realization, both involving the use of PCM and energy production system as ORC. Depending on the configuration, PMC are used either to moderate fumes temperature, or to decouple the transfer of heat from fumes according to the need of withdrawal by the energy recovery system. The latter consists of an ORC system fed by diathermic oil in the first type of configuration and by superheated water in the second one. Once explained the various aspects and benefits of the solutions, a more detailed description will be carried out in three subsequent papers in which we’ll explore the sizing of the two PCM-ORC configuration and the peculiarities of the overall system design
