This paper reports the most recent advancements of the research activities on the damped cable system for the seismic protection of new and existing frame buildings. These new activities concern the final definition of the computational model of the system, suitable for use with commercial finite element programs; the evaluation of further high-performing geometrical layouts of the cables; and the simulated application of this technology to representative case studies. The analyses carried out on two reference plane frames in order to test the computational model capabilities, to validate it by comparison with the results of the analytical model of the system formulated at previous stages of this research, and to verify the effectiveness of the new cable layouts examined, are initially summed up. A seismic retrofit hypothesis of a wing of the hospital of Latisana, in the Friuli region, is then presented. This hypothesis is detailed with regards to the application of the preliminary design procedure of the system, the study of cable geometry in relation to its architectural insertion, and the evaluation of seismic performance before and after the intervention proposed.

Abstract
This hypothesis is detailed with regards to the application of the preliminary design procedure of the system, the study of cable geometry in relation to its architectural insertion, and the evaluation of seismic performance before and after the intervention proposed.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
