The problem of controlling the mold level in a continuous casting process is considered. Since two different operating conditions can be identified, a switching controller structure is suggested. It is shown how to realize these controllers so as to ensure the stability of the overall feedback control system. Simulations show that the system performance can be improved significantly with the suggested control scheme.
