The goal of this study is the synthesis of a new class of deacidifying agents able to neutralize the acidity of book papers in a lasting and effective manner. Unlike most of deacidifying agents used so far (alkaline salts), we were searching for an organic compound able to form a covalent bond with cellulose structure that could be used also for a mass deacidification system. Aminodiazoderivatives presented many interesting characteristics to reach this purpose. We set up a new original method for the synthesis of 2-(1-piperidin)diazoethane and other aminodiazoderivatives. This study does not appear to have precedent in literature. Preliminary tests were carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of this deacidifying agent on several set of papers: the results are very promising.
