Tendenze dell’agricoltura alpina in Italia

The paper presents the results of a research aimed at improving the knowledge of the Alpine agriculture in Italy. Data from the Farm Accountancy Data Network have been analysed. The results show that the core business consists of traditional activities, i.e. husbandry and fruit and grape growing. These are mostly medium-sized farms, where young and female entrepreneurs are still not widespread. However, in these cases there is a greater propensity towards multifunctionality. The results support future research aimed at analysing in depth the role of multifunctionality for the economic sustainability of farms, the capability of young people and women to leverage this management variable also with innovative business formulas, and the characteristics of territorial relational systems.
