In the context of the fourth industrial revolution, the topic of product and process digital transformation is crucial. Through technologies such as IIoT, Machine Learning, and 3D printing, it is possible to improve the efficiency of production processes and develop new business models to boost market competitiveness. This study, developed primarily in the context of a local learning factory expansion project, aims to provide an overview of the technologies, tools and methods that companies have at their disposal today to tackle a digital transformation journey. After an overview of Industry 4.0 paradigm, tools for defining a strategic vision as a fundamental prerequisite for a successful transformation path are provided. Then, the main enabling technologies adopted in this context are outlined, describing their characteristics, strengths and weaknesses. Next, the activities carried out to implement a learning factory are presented, highlighting the main challenges and issues. The implementation of such a facility follows more complex logics than a conventional one since, in addition to ensuring realism and consistency from a technical point of view, educational and functional needs must also be considered. Finally, several application use cases of product and process digital transformation are reported. Projects phases and applications of the aforementioned enabling technologies are then discussed. Where possible, the use cases have been validated, demonstrating their actual benefits.

Abstract
Where possible, the use cases have been validated, demonstrating their actual benefits.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
