The central pour pose of this paper is to examine how a number of developed economies, plus the largest developing economy, vary in terms of corporate governance. We develop a new classification of national systems of corporate governance by considering not only the ownership structure but also the labour market, the type of relationship existing among companies and institutions, and the dynamics of the financial markets.
