Distribution of dragonflies of the genus Cordulegaster Leach in Friuli Venezia Giulia (Odonata, Cordulegastridae). In the period 2012-2014 further investigations were carried out to define the distribution of the dragonflies belonging to the genus Cordulegaster Leach (Odonata, Cordulegastridae) in Friuli Venezia Giulia (north-eastern Italy). In the region there are three species: C. bidentata Selys, 1843, C. boltonii (Donovan, 1807) and C. heros Theischinger, 1979. C. heros, widespread in the Balkan Peninsula, is of great natural interest and is listed in the European Habitats Directive. The distribution of each of the three species in Friuli Venezia Giulia is shown on a UTM grid with sides of 10×10 Km. Specimens of the three species were observed in alpine, pre-alpine, hilly or karst areas; their distribution maps in some cases overlap. The most common species is C. bidentata, followed by C. boltonii and C. heros. The latter species was found only in a few sites in the Julian Pre-Alps and the Karst at altitudes between 50 and 260 m above sea level.
