Farnese Palace in Caprarola: From Urban Design to the Decoration Work. The palace of Caprarola, with its gardens, is one of the greatest masterpieces of the Italian Renaissance, and among all, the most important work of Vignola. With its size, located at the top of the hill, the circular courtyard and its characteristic snail scale, the villafortress dominates the surrounding landscape and stands as one element of the surroundings, a symbol of power and magnificence of the Farnese family. These features are well represented both by the apparatus and from the architectural and urban landscape, finding the axis road and emphasizing the ideals of the interior decoration, but with a new vision given by the mixture of gestures and hidden meanings. The conference will provide the opportunity of an excursus on the architecture of the building that can not be separated from the urban context, designed and built by the Farnese family. To compete with the design of the fortress and the external arrangement, the decoration of the halls refer to citizens major palaces and is inextricably linked to what can be found at Villa Giulia.
