Seizures are known to be part of the disease spectrum in multiple sclerosis (MS). In a series of 600 patients with definite MS, we identified 10 subjects (1.6%) with epileptic seizures. These patients were mainly affected by relapsing-remitting MS, with disseminate lesions on neuro-imaging and slow activity on EEG. For seizures occurring only during relapses (30%), anti-epileptic treatment was not undertaken. All the other patients were treated with anti-epileptic drugs with good clinical response. Subjects affected by progressive MS had refractory seizures and experienced status epilepticus.
