Gli spazi dell'industria come memoria di un 'passato contemporaneo'

Industrial spaces as memory of a 'contemporary past': protection and vulnerability in the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region. Industrial sites and building, as lost 'tiles'of the Landscape-cultural Mosaic, are central elements in the process of valorisation or transformation of the territory, and the presence of buildings of major architectural interest points out the need for strategies for protection and intervention. The paper thus presents a preliminary review of the main issues regarding industrial heritage, still partially unexplored in the Italian context. The case of the industrial heritage in Friuli Venezia Giulia region is analysed in order to retrace the mosaic of material evidence of industry in the area and to examine its peculiar aspects through the documentation, classification and evaluation of industrial building and sites. The resulting catalogue highlights the presence of remarkable pieces of architecture, both historic and contemporary, and discloses a scenario of abandonment and material decay versus potential good practices for valorisation and reuse.
