A continuous membrane model for the infitesimal deformation of a spider web was recently proposed by Morassi, Soer and Zaera (2017) in the context of axially-symmetric webs. In this note, we derive an extension of the model to spider webs with an elliptic shape. The analysis of the tensile pre-stress acting on the referential configuration and the free transverse vibration of a supported elliptical web are studied in detail.

Abstract
A continuous membrane model for the infitesimal deformation of a spider web was recently proposed by Morassi, Soer and Zaera (2017) in the context of axially-symmetric webs. In this note, we derive an extension of the model to spider webs with an elliptic shape. The analysis of the tensile pre-stress acting on the referential configuration and the free transverse vibration of a supported elliptical web are studied in detail.File in questo prodotto:
