In recent years, a growing movement aims to bring together, from several perspectives, humans and the rest of living organisms, by trying – more or less explicitly – to put them in dialogue. In my paper I will study some “popular science” books, published in France and Italy, where this desire to meet this radical Other, the living being that belongs to a different species, is expressed. Our journey will not be a systematic one: I will focus on only a few titles, which I deemed particularly interesting insofar they show possible paths to be taken in order to broaden translation studies to areas other than those to which they are usually devoted. In the analysis of this choice of texts, I will show postures that range from an almost complete “absence of translation” to the explicit reference to concepts which are directly drawn from translatological reflection.
