This paper offers a theoretical introduction to the problem of the relations between literatures of different languages. Since the study of national literatures focusses itself mainly on texts which are written in a single language, these relations are often marginalized or left undiscussed. By discussing different theoretical approaches, that have raised to the attention of scholars in the last decades – like the reception studies, the cultural transfer studies or the translation studies –, this paper offers a new way to think about this problem in order to go beyond the limits of a one-national perspective in the study of national literatures.

Abstract

This paper offers a theoretical introduction to the problem of the relations between literatures of different languages. Since the study of national literatures focusses itself mainly on texts which are written in a single language, these relations are often marginalized or left undiscussed. By discussing different theoretical approaches, that have raised to the attention of scholars in the last decades – like the reception studies, the cultural transfer studies or the translation studies –, this paper offers a new way to think about this problem in order to go beyond the limits of a one-national perspective in the study of national literatures.
