Paolo Delogu was born in Cagliari in 1940 but he trained mainly in Rome, where he also held most of his teaching, with the exception of some years spent at the Universities of Salerno and Florence. His research on the early Middle Ages and the Norman Age in the Southern Italy have deeply innovated Italian historiography, in particular opening it to the consideration of unwritten sources: archaeological, historical-artistic and numismatic in the first place.

Abstract
