This paper pursues an objective that is two-fold. On the one hand, it attempts to cast light on difficulties that stem from the translation of notions on industrial relations (IR) in the context of the European Union. On the other hand, it aims to draw the attention of Translation Studies (TS) scholars to comparative industrial relations, a domain that has been poorly researched as far translation issues are concerned. To this end, there has been an analysis on a set of documents, produced in Italian by the European Union, and containing the notion of mobilità – a concept pertaining to Italy’s industrial relations – to see how this concept has been translated into English, and to evaluate whether the strategies used by EU translators have been successful in conveying its meaning to the target language
