As new technologies continue to advance, more and more studies are being conducted on machine translation (MT) and post-editing (PE) for various purposes, including their integration into translator training (Mellinger 2017; González Pastor/Rico 2021). However, there is a lack of research on how PE is carried out in translation courses at the university level. When it comes to medical translation, for example, specific terminology, thematic density and register are problems that MT itself is not yet able to solve adequately, which highlights the need for specific training both in medical translation and PE in order to successfully use MT (Trujillos-Yébenes/MuñozMiquel 2022: 71). This study investigates the difficulties that first-year students of a Master's Degree in Specialized Translation face when carrying out the PE of medical texts in the SpanishItalian combination. Furthermore, it explores how the students' own perception of MT influences their PE performance.
