Evander's exile, for which Virgil does not suggest specific motivations and which Virgilian exegesis refers to topical events in the foundation legends, is presented by Carmenta in Book I of the Fasti in terms evidently recalling Ovid's exiled situation. My paper proposes a relationship with Protheus' prophecy to Aristaeus in the 4th book of the Georgics and suggests that the way in which Ovid refers to the cause of his exile recalls the story of Cornelius Gallus and that the retractatio of the Fasti has some relation to the discussed retractatio of the Georgics and the issue of the Laudes Galli.
