In spite of the importance of the phenomenon in the mod ern trade due to the containerization, the multimodal trans port, or combined transport, was not regulated in the italian law system until 2021 therefore the doctrine and the jurispru dence had tried to conceive interpretative solutions in order to fill the gap. The reform of article 1696 of Civil Code finally gave a positive regulation of the liability regime of the multi modal operator, but some solutions set therein, like the limit of debt, appear questionable.
