Probably in the last quarter of the 16th century, in the Padua university environment, the physician and philosopher Pompeo Caimo translated into Latin the oration Peri tōn sophistōn by the Greek rhetor Alcidams. His version, which predates by more than a century the first one published in print (1781), is contained manuscript and autograph in the folios of a copy of the Aldine edition of the Greek rhetoricians (Venetiis 1513), now preserved at the University Library of Padua (with shelfmark: A.062.a.021). On the basis of some textual specimens, Pompeo Caimo's translation is examined here from a philological and stylistic point of view.

On the basis of some textual specimens, Pompeo Caimo's translation is examined here from a philological and stylistic point of view.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
