In this essay, the “classic”, understood in its original meaning as that which remains valid through time, is identified with a tradition of thought that developed in Greek, Roman and medieval antiquity. It is precisely the philosophical tradition, handed down from the time of Socrates, which reaches, through Plato and Aristotle, up to the Stoics and Cicero, to then continue in scholastic speculation, especially in the theological reflection of Thomas Aquinas. In particular, the fruitfulness and topicality of this tradition is highlighted, as regards its manifestation in the legal field, through an investigation of the Ulpian definitions of ius and iustitia, more specifically on the meaning that can be attributed today to the expression “ius suum”.

Abstract
In this essay, the “classic”, understood in its original meaning as that which remains valid through time, is identified with a tradition of thought that developed in Greek, Roman and medieval antiquity. It is precisely the philosophical tradition, handed down from the time of Socrates, which reaches, through Plato and Aristotle, up to the Stoics and Cicero, to then continue in scholastic speculation, especially in the theological reflection of Thomas Aquinas. In particular, the fruitfulness and topicality of this tradition is highlighted, as regards its manifestation in the legal field, through an investigation of the Ulpian definitions of ius and iustitia, more specifically on the meaning that can be attributed today to the expression “ius suum”.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
