The essay analyses how Roman jurisprudence interpreted the verb habitare contained in the edict De his, qui deiecerint vel effuderint and identified the rules of liability in cases where there were multiple habitatores in a single cenaculum, highlighting the existence of an exception to the rule whereby habitator is someone who lives in a house that belongs to him, is someone who lives in a rented house, and is someone who lives in someone else's house free of charge.
