Abstract

The contribution reviews unpublished public and private epistolary sources exchanged with authorities and personalities of the kingdom of Sicily, held in the State Archives of Venice and the Marciana Library of the same city. These are little-known sources because historiographic critics believed that, following a fire in 1577, the entire diplomatic archive of the lagoon republic was lost. In reality, a few hundred missives have been saved, mostly in minuta, some of which provide biographical details about leading figures in southern cultural life, such as Giovanni Pontano.
