The essay reviews the volume Le rime di Andrea Michieli detto lo Strazzola. Edizione critica e commento, edited by E. Pezzini (Venice, Ed. Ca’ Foscari, 2025). The author demonstrates that the edition, linguistic analysis and interpretation of these difficult and challenging texts, belonging to the genre of satirical and burlesque poetry, are unsatisfactory. Consequently, future readers or scholars wishing to cite the verses of Strazzola (a modest Venetian poet active in the second half of the 15th century who died in 1510) would be better advised to consult the manuscript directly (α.G.6.13 = Ital. 384 in the Biblioteca Estense, Modena). At the conclusion of the article, evidence is provided to show that this manuscript is an idiograph rather than an autograph.
