This article offers new readings and interpretations of P.Oxy. XVIII 2195, an account which belongs to the dossier of the Apiones and dates to 576/7. It focuses on how the account was drafted and shows that some problematic passages, also including alleged errors of calculation, can be interpreted as transcription errors of the scribe: he copied the entries and the grand totals out of a preceding draft based on single receipts, as shown by numerous misreadings and variations of the graphic style. In one case, this new perspective leads to a reconsideration of the role of the famous „evanescent” Fl. Strategios III, son of Apion III, within the management of the domus gloriosa before his father’s death.
