Osservazioni sul sistema antroponimico timavese

Remarks on the Timavese Anthroponymic System · This work deals with the onomastic system of Timau (Tischlbong), a German-speaking linguistic enclave in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region of northeastern Italy. Basing on archival records, parish registers, cadastral documents, local publications, and fieldwork, it reconstructs both the official and the vernacular naming systems, highlighting the interaction between given names, surnames, individual nicknames, and family bynames. The study analyses the historical evolution, linguistic origin, transmission patterns, and sociolinguistic functions of these anthroponyms. Particular attention is devoted to the effects of long-term language contact among Timavese German, Friulian, and Italian, showing how anthroponymic evidence provides valuable insights into contact-induced change, cultural identity, and the organization of a multilingual Alpine community.
